How to start your own distillery

How to start your own distillery

Once upon a time, all distilleries were small.
Whether they made whisky or gin, the two spirits traditionally distilled in the UK, the scale of these historic operations was modest, in many cases domestic.  Distilling was carried out at home as a means of preserving fruit, preparing simple medicines and, of course, supplying alcohol for drinking.

Delays

March 30th, 2009 | Annejkh Carson

Working with small Family-run workshops and local suppliers ensures we can be confident about the excellent quality, sourcing and ethics behind all of our footwear here at Lodger.

Unfortunately due to the nature of our supply chain there are a few things we can’t quite control, and we are currently experiencing a delay with our heels and some of our leathers. We have our heels made exclusively for Lodger in a small workshop in Northampton. The workshop had a late delivery of leather and so are behind with their assembly.

Our desert boot suede arrived on time, but was slightly too dark so we asked for it to be returned to the tannery and are currently waiting for the correct replacement skins. The new skins have had to be dyed specially for us, and therefore are taking longer than we had hoped.

Obviously these delays are very frustrating for all involved; for our factories waiting for components and materials to complete the shoes, for us waiting to receive the orders, and for everyone waiting patiently for their Lodgers.

Please bear with us during these times. We strive for excellence and the very best quality product, and would rather deliver shoes we are 100% confident with, even if sometimes we unfortunately incur time penalties in doing so.

Adding rubbers

March 26th, 2009 | Nathan Brown

Several of our clients have mentioned that they prefer having a rubber sole on their shoes.  Considering London's weather, it's a rather sensible option.

At the moment all of our Ready to Wear shoes have a full leather sole.  We wanted to keep our first collection tight and I believe a classic leather sole is the most elegant for a pair of shoes.

Now we can please everyone.  We have been working on a 3/4 rubber sole that keeps the beautiful leather edge and will perform in the rain.  And it's finally ready.

Our first customer delivery is shown below.  We can add this to any of our existing RTW styles, so please  contact Clement at the shop if you have an interest.

Anyone for tennis…?

March 20th, 2009 | Nathan Brown

Many thanks to Matthew for personally delivering our tennis shoe sample this morning. These have been VERY eagerly anticipated at Lodger HQ; especially with the recent break in weather!

So…here they are: in ultra-fine off-white nubuck with a great two-piece toecap and hand stitch detail on the quarters. We've used a nude stain to show off the rope bunking on the flexi-leather sole and added a sumptuous Lodger Oxblood lining. The flat woven laces have metal tips; just as on original tennis shoes, and weave through five rows of perfectly enameled eyelets.

Available from April 1st for thirty days only!

International Life

March 19th, 2009 | Nathan Brown

Thanks to International Life; luxury Mens Magazine, for a great mention. Jessica Fellowes selects the Lodger George Boot in her upbeat and humorous piece on Luxury Living in these rather sombre times.

'Go for the very best of everything and you won't waste time'

How true; surely now is the time to make intelligent, informed  purchases? Buying quality investment pieces for longevity has never been more relevant.
