Once upon a time, all distilleries were small.
Whether they made whisky or gin, the two spirits traditionally distilled in the UK, the scale of these historic operations was modest, in many cases domestic. Distilling was carried out at home as a means of preserving fruit, preparing simple medicines and, of course, supplying alcohol for drinking.

This month we had a scare with the Italian Shoe of the Month. Annejkh had been working on the George boot for quite a while, but by the 27th of January we still hadn't received the final samples. So, as a precaution, we sent our photographer Martin another pair of shoes we've been working on.
As it turns out, the boots turned up at the very last minute and we were able to proceed as planned.
Here's a taste of what very nearly became the Italian Shoe of the Month for February. It's a beautiful style that you'll be seeing before long. Just not yet . . .
Lodger Footwear is continuing the tradition of hosting a launch party for the new Shoes of the Month on the First Thursday of every month.
This month, to help with the festivities, the evening will be hosted by Mark Chamberlain of Chamberlain Wines. Mark will be leading a tasting on the theme of "Modern craftsmanship in a classic world." Something that is very dear to our hearts at Lodger.
The gathering will be from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday the 5th of February at the Lodger shop.
